Bee products are commonly used to combat the affects of aging. This is primarily due to their high amino acid content, which can help improve the immune system and fight off many ailments associated with the onset of old age.
Also, topical applications of royal jelly and propolis can help rejuvenate the skin, remove wrinkles and create a more youthful appearance. Royal jelly in particular is often applied beneath the eyes and can help with crows feet and wrinkles.

The baby boomer generation are active in purchasing supplements, lotions and potions to help maintain a youthful appearance and active lifestyle. Often, supplement and skin care products can cost many hundreds of dollars each month and may have little or no tangible benefit to the user. We feel that level of expenditure is mostly unnecessary and is often the result of aggressive marketing techniques which lure people with the promise of extended life-cycles and young-for-ever appearance.
Bee products contain much more in nutritional terms than the vast majority of health supplements on the market, and their associated benefits to the immune system make place them in the elite few products that really could make a difference.

I don’t want to get into the politics of the situation at this point, suffice to say that the US Government are getting ready to enforce legislation that will essentially spell the end of the vitamin supplement industry, at least the 99% of it that cannot afford to implement FDA regulatory testing.

A milky and creamy textured substance, royal jelly is a secretion derived from the pharyngeal glands of the honey bee.

Many refer to royal jelly as a “super food”, and for very good reason. Royal Jelly is high in proteins and is produced during the digestion of pollen by worker bees. During this process it is blended with enzymes and the resultant product fed to each bee destined to become a queen. During this cycle it becomes the exclusive food of the queen bee and enables her to lay up to 3,000 eggs per day during her six-year lifespan. In contrast, common worker bees eating ordinary honey live only four to six weeks.

I’ve had a few emails recently relating to my post about the quality of royal jelly in skin care products and whether or not it’s nutritional grade. I’m not an expert in this field but I would have to doubt that royal jelly used by Burt’s Bees, Jaffra and Bee Alive (to name a few) is of nutritional grade or anything close to 10 HDA. And it probably doesn’t need to be, since it isn’t being ingested.
Also, to name a couple other suppliers, Beehive Botanicals in Hayward WI, and of course our own Lac Verde Naturals. In Lac Verde products, we use nutritional grade royal jelly and beeswax, since we’re small and we use what we have readily available to us. Since the Lac Verde Organic skin care line was a ‘test’ run, for market research purposes, it wasn’t cost-prohibitive to use high quality royal jelly. (Fresh, liquid form too).
Given the excellent feedback we’ve had on Lac Verde Organics, we’d be hesitant to use royal jelly in any other form, should we decide to take that line into full production in the future.

I’m always on the lookout for new ways to take bee products. Today’s post is a recipe that I came up with several years ago. I haven’t made it in a while and I think now that Winter is fast approaching I need to get cooking again.
The recipe combines bee pollen with fresh honey and royal jelly. It utilizes fresh fruits and vegetables in a very healthy drink.
